Bay State Bandits

The Bay State Bandits is the one and only Cowboy Mounted Shooting club in Massachusetts. Established in 2022, the bandits have grown quickly. The Bandits host multiple events during the season including Quick or Dead, the Massachusetts State Championship  as well as beginner to advance clinics.

What is Cowboy Mounted Shooting?

How it works

  • Riders navigate a course while shooting at targets.

  • Riders use blank ammunition to break balloons within 20 feet, making it safe for spectators and challenging for riders.

  • Riders are scored on time and accuracy.

  • Penalties are applied for missing targets, dropping the gun, or even falling off their horse.

  • Mounted Shooters use .45 caliber single action revolvers like those used in the late 1800's. Single action revolvers must be cocked each time before firing by drawing the hammer back.

Who can participate?

  • Anyone over the age of 13 that is a CMSA membership and has taken a beginner safety clinic.

  • Riders 12 and under are considered wranglers, they ride the courses with cap/toy guns.
